You are being asked to take part in a linguistics research study that will be conducted through the College of Arts and Letters at Michigan State University. I am doing this research for my Master’s thesis. The study is open to adults above the age of 18 who speak English.
The purpose of the study is to examine the speech production of speakers when they read words from a list compared to when they repeat words spoken by someone else.
You will be asked to record yourself reading words from a list and repeating words that you hear from a recorded speaker.
The audio of your responses will be recorded. Only the research team will have access to this data. Personally identifying information will not be collected, and as such your identity will be confidential. In all written works produced using this data, you will be referred to with an anonymous ID, e.g. “Participant 1”.
Your participation in this research project is completely voluntary. You have the right to say no. You may change your mind at any time and withdraw. If you do not want to continue with the study, you may exit out of the study’s webpage.
There are no costs for your participation. The study should take about 15 minutes of your time, and you will be compensated $5 for your participation.
If you would like to receive a copy of the results of this study when it is completed, please feel free to contact the researcher, Jack Rechsteiner, at rechste4@msu.edu.
