You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide whether or not to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully.
Previous research has shown that it is difficult to ignore the meaning of words even when this is not necessary to perform a task. We want to explore how our processing of the meaning of words affect our ability to perform a task unrelated to that meaning.
Adults aged 18-50 years who are fluent in English and who are not colour blind are invited to participate in the study. Around 100 participants are expected to participate.
It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you do decide to take part you are still free to withdraw unprocessed data at any time by closing the browser before pressing the 'submit' button.
If you choose to take part, you will be directed to a short online experiment. This will take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Your responses will be collected anonymously and will remain confidential.
There are no disadvantages to taking part in this study. The only cost to you is the time taken to complete the study (approximately 10 minutes).
The main benefit will be to the students who are completing this research as part of their studies in psychology at Oxford Brookes University.

The results of this study will be written up and submitted as a piece of work to fulfil the requirements of the module PSYC4012 – Introduction to Psychological Research. The results may also be published in an academic journal, presented at a conference or used for future research on the topic. If this is the case, then all data will be stored in keeping with the University’s policy of Academic Integrity. This means that it will be securely stored in paper or electronic form for a period of 10 years when the project is finished. Anonymous data files may also be uploaded into a repository. If no publication or future use of the data is planned, then it will be deleted at the end of the module.
